Select a date for your wedding

Determine The type of wedding you want including location, formality, time of day, number of  guests, etc.

Determine a budget and how expenses will be shared.

Develop a record-keeping system for payments made.

Buy a calendar and note all important events including showers, luncheons, parties, get-together, dress shopping, etc.

Consolidate all guest lists: bride?s, groom?s, bride?s family, groom?s family, and organize into three categories: Those who must be invited, those who should be invited, those who it would be nice to invite.

Decide if you want to include children among the guests.

Select and reserve the ceremony site, officiant, and ceremony music.

Select and reserve the reception site.

Select and reserve the caterer.

Select and reserve reception musicians or DJ.

Select and order a cake.

Select and order your bridal gown and headpiece.

Determine your color scheme.

Order passport, visa, or birth certificate, if needed for your honeymoon and marriage license.

Select and book photographer.

Select maid of honor, best man, bridesmaids, and ushers.

Select flower girl and ring bearer.

Let your wedding party know what is expected of them.

Reserve wedding night bridal suite.

Select attendants? dresses, shoes, and accessories.

Select flower girl?s dress, shoes, and accessories.

Schedule fittings and delivery dates for yourself, attendants, flower girl, and ring bearer.

When trying on your dress walk around in it for a while at the store to make sure that everything stays where it should and that the crinoline does stay where you want it. Sometimes it can look nice in the mirror, but as soon as you start walking you realize that it is going to be a long day of tugging at your dress.

Consider what you will wear under your dress including a bra, panties, hosiery, and slimmer.

Select and book a videographer.

Select and book a florist.

Start planning your honeymoon.

Four to Six Months Before The Wedding

Start shopping for your wedding gifts. For the brides we suggest that if you want to exchange gifts that you tell your husband-to-be to buy you a gift and don't forget to remind him, have him read this list, or have a friend tell him. If you don't, and he doesn't buy you something such as a beautiful piece of jewelry or a special card, and you bought him something, you may be disappointed. It is not worth it, so just let him know. If it isn't important to you, then skip it.

Reserve rental items needed for ceremony and reception.

Order party favors.

Finalize guest list.

Select and order wedding invitations, announcements, thank-you notes, wedding programs, and seating cards.

Address invitations.

Set date, time, and location for your rehearsal dinner.

Arrange accommodations for out-of-town guests.

Register for gifts.

Purchase shoes and accessories.

Begin to break in your shoes.

Select and book transportation for the wedding day.

Check blood test and marriage license requirements.

Shop for wedding rings and engrave them.

Consider having your teeth cleaned or bleached.

Consider writing a prenuptial agreement.

Purchase gifts for wedding attendants.

Two to Four Months Before The Wedding

Begin to write your ceremony program.

Begin working on your vows.

Arrange for a baby sitter for the reception if necessary.

Attend bachelorette and bachelor parties and thank the maid of honor and best man.

Mail invitations. Include accommodation choices and a map to assist guests in finding the ceremony and reception sites.

Maintain a record of RSVPs and all gifts received. Send thank-you notes upon receipt of gifts.

Make a final decision on hairstyle and makeup.

Schedule to have your hair, makeup, and nails done the day of the wedding.

Schedule to have a practice hair day the day of the bridal shower or bachelorette party.

Finalize shopping for wedding day accessories such as toasting glasses, ring pillow, guest book or frame, etc.

Finalize shopping for jewelry and purse.

Consider having the guest book at the ceremony and the reception for guests who don?t attend both.

Select and reserve wedding attire for groom, ushers, father of the bride, and ring bearer.

Six to Eight Weeks Before The Wedding

Change name and address on drivers license, social security card, insurance policies, subscriptions, bank accounts, memberships, etc.

Mail out rehearsal dinner invitations along with to do lists and a detailed timeline.

Obtain marriage license.

Set a time to give the bridesmaids their gifts.

Find "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a six pence (or shiny penny) for your shoe."

Finalize your menu, beverage, and alcohol order.

Two to Six Weeks Before The Wedding

Confirm ceremony details with your officiant.

Decide if you want to form a receiving line. If so, determine when and where to form the line.

Arrange final fitting of bridesmaids? dresses.

Have a final fitting of your gown and headpiece.

Finalize rehearsal dinner plans.

Make final floral selections.

Confirm details with all service providers, including attire.

Start packing for your honeymoon.

Put together an overnight bag for your wedding night (toothbrush, sexy lingerie, etc.) and designate someone to deliver it to the hotel for you.

Address and stamp announcements.

Contact guests who haven?t responded.

Pick up rings and check for fit.

Meet with photographer and confirm special photos you want.

Meet with videographer and confirm special events or people you want videotaped.

Meet with musicians or DJ and confirm music to be played during special events such as the first dance, grand march, father-daughter dance, and mother-son dance. Also discuss if you would like to have the "dollar dance", "chicken dance", and "hokey-pokey".

Purchase lipstick, nail polish, and any other accessories you want your bridesmaids to wear.

Determine ceremony seating for special guests. Give a list to the ushers.

Determine seating chart for the ceremony if necessary. If a seating chart is not necessary, consider "Reserved" cards for special guests.

Consider a small white table set for children that are special guests such as the ring bearer, flower girl, or children of the bride or groom.

The Last Week

Pick up wedding attire and make sure everything fits.

Do final guest count and notify the caterer or reception site.

Gather everything you will need for the rehearsal and wedding as.

Arrange for someone to drive the getaway car.

Confirm all honeymoon reservations and accommodations.

Pick up tickets and travelers checks.

Finish packing your suite case for the honeymoon.

Familiarize yourself with guests? names.

If you are going to be out of town for a long period of time, have the post office hold your mail.

The Rehearsal Day

Give your bridesmaids any gifts you haven?t given them yet.

Give the best man the officiant?s fee and other checks for service providers.

Arrange for someone to bring accessories such as flower basket, ring pillow, guest book & pen, toasting glasses, cake cutting knife, and napkins to the ceremony and reception.

Arrange for someone to return rental items.
